This study investigated EFL students’ willingness to communicate in EFL
classromm. This research paper aimed to explore the factors contributing students’
willingness to communicate in EFL classroom. A qualitative study using a semistructured
interview with seven university students of University of
Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka has been conducted. The results showed that a
number of such factors contributed to willingness to communicate. These factors
include self-confidence, vocabulary mastery, topic of discussion, lecturer,
interlocutor and preparation. This research was expected to to help students realize
and find the factors that will influence their willingness to communicate so they can
improve their willingness to communicate in order to communicate more freely and
suggest an effective approach to be implemented in teaching speaking in EFL
context for lecturerrs in classroom.
