This paper is intended to know whether or not there is significance relationship between self-efficacy and writing ability of the fourth semester students of English education at university of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka in the 2021/2022 academic year. The independent variable (X) is self-efficacy and the dependent variable (Y) is writing ability. The participants of this research were 25 students of essay writing class. In addition, it is a quantitative research that uses questionnaire and students’ writing rubric in order to gather the data. Moreover, the data was analysed using Pearson Product Moment in order to get the correlation significance of the variables. The result showed that it found robserved (ro) = 0.77 is higher than rtable (rt) = 0.396. As ro > rt, it can be said that Ho is rejected, and Hi is accepted. For the result of significant found tobserved (to) = 5.83 is higher than ttable (tt) = 1.714. Thus, it means that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and writing ability of the fourth semester students of English education at University of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka.
