The aim of this research is to find out the empirical evidence of the english
summative test that appropriated to the criteria of the good test items, through the
calculation of the difficulty index, the discriminating power, and the effectiveness
of distractor.
The population of this research were 154 students‟ answer sheets of
English summative test from five classes of the second semester of the eighth
grade students of MTs Al Khairiyah Koja Jakarta. The writer took 30% from the
population as the samples. The samples were taken at random and selected into
upper and lower groups of student. The data from the upper and lower groups of
students were interpreted through the quantitative method.
The results of the research have shown through the calculation of Facility
Value (FV), The writer founds there were 12,5% of the 40 items which were
included in the very easy categories, 35% easy items, 22,5% medium items, 25%
difficult items, and 5% very difficult items. In addition, through the calculation of
Discriminating Power (DP), the writer founds 12,5% of the 40 items which were
included in the very poor categories that need to be discarded, 20% poor item that
need to be revised, 30% satisfactory items, 25% good items, and 12,5% excellent
items. Based on the data above, it can be concluded that the English summative
test which had been carried out at the second semester of the eighth grade students
of MTs Al Khairiyah Koja Jakarta in 2018 – 2019 academic year was good
