The purpose of this study was to investigate the major reading comprehension
problems encountered by the vocational school students. The writer used three
instruments: Questionnaire, Interview, and Observation to determine the students'
major reading comprehension problems. This study was participated by 30 tenth
grade Multimedia of Vocational high school students. The writer used both
quantitative and qualitative method to analyze the data. The result of this study
indicated that many tenth grade students of vocational high school, majoring in
multimedia are encountering some problems related to the connecting ideas, the
topic is another culture, vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. Furthermore,
this study also revealed that the major problems faced by the students are the
problems related to connect the idea is not quite possible for students which do
not know other cultural references that they are not familiar words. Therefore, the
students are quite possible to fail in understanding reading text and they have to
be mastery vocabulary in order to improve their grammar.
