The development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has opened up broad
opportunities in the automatic control of electronic devices, including household
lighting systems. Conventional lighting systems that still rely on manual switches
often contribute to energy waste due to user negligence. This research aims to
design and implement a lighting intensity control system based on IoT, accessible
via a smartphone application. The system design was carried out through several
stages, including literature study, hardware and software design, system
implementation, and device performance testing. The hardware components consist
of a NodeMCU ESP32 as the central controller, an AC Light Dimmer to adjust light
intensity, a relay for ON/OFF functions, an LCD I2C to display status, and an
Android application as the user interface. The application communicates with the
ESP32 via a Wi-Fi network to transmit lighting control commands. the testing
results show that the system operates stably and responsively in adjusting light
intensity from 0% to 100%. Measurements using a multimeter indicated that
voltage increased along with the dimmer intensity, while a lux meter recorded a
maximum illumination of 980 lux with a 2% deviation from the target value. It
should be noted that the 980 lux value is not a fixed standard for a 3-watt lamp, as
lux measurements vary depending on the distance of measurement. This system has
proven to be an effective IoT-based home lighting automation solution that is
energy-efficient, flexible, and user-friendly.
