maupun sifat mekanik lasan.
tarik.

The Effect of Cone and Hole Surfaces in Friction Welding of Aluminum and Copper on the
Chemical Composition EDX Mapping Method and Mechanical Properties of Welds
Aditya Maulana
Friction welding is a method of joining metals that utilizes heat energy resulting from friction
between two different material surfaces. In this research, an analysis was carried out on the effect
of variations in the angle of the cone in copper and the hole in aluminum 6061 on the quality of the
resulting joint, both in terms of chemical composition and mechanical properties of the weld. Tests
were carried out using the method (SEM-EDX Mapping) to observe the distribution of elements in
the connection area. In addition, mechanical tests were carried out in the form of tensile tests and
hardness tests to evaluate the strength and durability of the joints formed. Experiments were carried
out by varying the angles of the cone on copper and the hole on aluminum in three configurations,
namely 30o, 45o, and 60o. The welding parameters used include a rotational speed of 1300 rpm, a
pressure of 20 Kg/cm2, and a friction time of 60 seconds. Test results show that variations in cone
and hole angles have a significant effect on connection characteristics. The 30o angle produces the
highest tensile strength value of 2.0 kgf/mm2, indicating that a smaller cone angle increases the
cohesion between the two materials. Meanwhile, the highest hardness value was found at an angle
of 45o, with a value of 93,8 HV in the weld zone, which indicates increased mechanical resistance
due to more optimal element interactions. At an angle of 60o, the material mixing between aluminum
and copper looks more homogeneous compared to other angles, but the resulting tensile strength is
lower than at an angle of 30o. This shows that although the distribution of elements in the weld zone
is more uniform, the microstructure formed tends to reduce the mechanical resistance to tensile
loads.
