Pengaruh Penggunaan Tutup Sudu Kincir Terhadap Kinerja Kincir

Overshot

Effect of Using a Wheel Blade Cap on the Performance of an Overshot Wheel

Axcel Ajenci Raples

A waterwheel is part of a Microhydro Power Plant (MHP) that uses the height and speed of flowing
water to generate energy. Although the installation location and shape of the pinwheel affect how
much energy can be converted by the waterwheel, there is still a significant loss of wasted water.
This study aims to determine the effect of using a pinwheel blade cap on the performance of an
overshot pinwheel. This test uses the following variable water discharge rates: 1 m3

/ hour, 2 m3
/

hour, 3 m3
/ hour, 4 m3

/ hour, 5 m3

/ hour and 6 m3

/ hour. From the results of the data and graphs
that have been analyzed, the highest wheel power from the test is 5.22 W at a discharge of 6 m3
/

hour and the greatest efficiency generated is 84.87% at a discharge of 1m3

/ hour on the open wheel

while the closed wheel of the highest wheel power is 1.93 W at a discharge of 6 m3

/hour and the
greatest efficiency is 33.59%. Based on the data generated, it can be seen that the efficiency of the
open pinwheel is greater than the closed pinwheel. This shows that the use of blade caps can result
in a reduction in the rotational value and efficiency of the pinwheel.
