This research focuses on the students’ perceptions of the implementation of ice breaking in their English learning motivation. It was conducted using a mix-method design. The explanatory sequential design is a mixed method approach which the researcher starts with a quantitative phase then follows up with a qualitative phase to better understand and to clarify specific results from the initial quantitative analysis. Based on the data collected, a total of 59 respondents had filled in the questionnaire. There were 3 aspects of categories described in this study. The categories were; the use of ice breaking towards students’ English learning, the perception towards implementations of ice breaking, students’ motivation towards English learning. Several participants mentioned that ice-breaking was very helpful in learning English because it made it easier for students to understand the material better. The majority of students showed positive perceptions toward the use of ice-breaking in motivation English learning. Thus, it motivated them to learn English better. Overall, this study shows that the use of ice breaking has a positive perception on students'' learning motivation in English learning, both in emotional and social aspects.
