This study examines how an EFL pre-service teacher selects and adjusts materials from existing lesson plans to suit their students' reading abilities. Narrative inquiry was used in this study by using teacher's reflective diaries and lesson plans as primary data sources, the research analyzes the decision-making process behind material selection and adaptation. The analysis is based on principles established by Griffith and Lacina (2018) and Tomlinson (2018) regarding foreign language teachers' decision-making. Findings suggest that pre-service teachers cannot depend entirely on prepared materials and must consider curriculum-based learning goals when selecting and adapting supplementary texts. The study emphasizes the importance of aligning teaching materials with learning objectives, classroom activities, and student assessments. It concludes by highlighting the need for clear guidelines to help pre-service teachers effectively select and adapt learning materials.
