Students’ Perception on the Benefit and Effect of the Use of English Content of YouTube for Learning English in the Eleventh Grade at SMA Negeri 62 Jakarta Timur

The objective of this research is to investigate students’ perception on the Benefit and Effect of the Use English Content YouTube for Learning English in eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 62 Jakarta Timur. There were 108 students to be the sample of the research who fill the questionnaire using Google Forms. This research is a descriptive quantitative survey. The data collected using a questionnaire were analyzed using percentages. The questionnaire consists of two aspects. They are (a) students’ perception on the benefit of the use English Content YouTube for learning English independently, and (b) students’ perception on the effect of the use English content YouTube for learning English to improve their English skill. Based on the result of the research, the students who chose film or animation on YouTube for learning English independently is 33.33%. The duration that students spent in using YouTube for learning English less than 5 hours is 58%. Furthermore, students’ perception on the benefit of the use English content YouTube for learning English independently had positive perception. It can be proven from the benefits of using YouTube, that is, the ease of use of using YouTube is 58.33% agree, 32.41% strongly agree, 18.52% disagree, and 1.85% strongly disagree. Secondly, the usefulness of using YouTube 58.33% agree, 44.44% strongly agree, 12.04% disagree, and 4.63% strongly disagree. Thirdly, students’ attitude toward using YouTube for learning English 60.19% agree, 24.07% strongly agree, 23.15% disagree, and 1.85% strongly disagree. Meanwhile, the effect of the use English content YouTube for learning English to improve their English skill is 59.26% agree. It means that using YouTube is a good source for learning English skill. Finally, from the results, it can be concluded that English content of YouTube have benefits for students in learning English independently and have effect to improve their English skill.
