The Relationship between Students’ Reading Habit and Reading Comprehension Skills in The English Department at UHAMKA

This study aimed to determine the Relationship Between Students' Reading Habit and Reading Comprehension in the UHAMKA English department. This study used the correlational method, and it took place on July 29 and 31, 2023. Students enrolled in the second semester of the 2022–2023 academic year were the study's participants. The author used two classes of thirty-five second semester students as the sample for this study. The author employed a random sampling method. Following that, the normalcy, regression, and linearity tests—prerequisite tests— were used to assess the data. The normality test result showed a normally distributed result. The regression test result was therefore Y̅ = 2,4875 + 0,75 𝑥𝑖. Finally, the linearity test gave a linear result.
The correlation coefficient (r) between students' reading habit and reading comprehension was discovered by the author to be 0.534. Subsequently, the author demonstrated a positive connection by contrasting the R results with the interpretation of the correlation table. The author tested the hypothesis using a t- test, the final result of which was 3.5, and compared it with the t-table at a significance level of 5%, or 2.03. The author's t-count > t-table (3.5 > 2.03) led to Ha's acceptance. This demonstrates how reading habit, particularly those pertaining to word meaning, synonyms, and antonyms, enhance and aid students' development of their reading comprehension.
