An Analysis of Students’ Speaking Anxiety in Speaking English at 10th Grade High School Students at Sma Yapemri Depok Timur

The aim of the research was to identify the primary factor that causes students to experience anxiety when speaking among high school students in the 10 IPS 3 class. The researcher employed a descriptive quantitative research design and collected data through the use of questionnaires. The research sample consisted of 33 students from the grade 10 IPS 3 class at SMA Yapemri East Depok. The sample was selected using the Purposive Sampling Technique.
The findings revealed six factors that contribute to students' anxiety when speaking English: over self-prediction of fear, irrational beliefs, heightened sensitivity to threats, anxiety sensitivity, misinterpretation of bodily signals, and low self- efficacy. Upon analyzing the data, the researcher concluded that the dominant factor causing students' anxiety when speaking English was "Over Self-Prediction Toward Fear."
