The study was conducted to find out the factors and strategies for English education at Jakarta in university when feeling anxious about Public Speaking English. Public Speaking Anxiety is condition when people feels anxious about speaking in an audience or when preparing to speak. Sometimes, anxieties about public speaking are known as glossophobia, and it may be experienced by EFL students in Indonesia. Therefore, researchers are serious about analyzing this problem.
Researchers use mixed methods, there are two combined approaches, namely qualitative and quantitative. The subject who became a target in the study was an English education student in Jakarta, who focused on the student who had taken public speaking. Researchers used 200 respondents who have responded to the questionnaire. It consists of the 17 items of close-ended questionnaire and 3 items of open-ended questionnaire in the form of links in Google Forms and share using whatsapp.The results showed that many students with Public Speaking Anxiety. This is seen from calculations using version 25 of the SPSS application. In the calculation results, researchers revealed that there were three main factors; Public Speaking Situation Factors (57.83%), Psychological Factors (50%), and English Competence Factors (49.80%). In the results of this study, one of the main factors that dominates students' concerns is the Public Speaking Situation Factors, where students feel anxious because they are afraid of being judged badly and will embarrass themselves. Moreover, the teacher's presence during periodization can cause anxiety in the student when the teacher gives excessive criticism, it can inspire fear to express their opinion. Based on these factors, students employ several strategies to minimize public speaking anxiety: Self-Management, and Getting Help from peer seeking. In this research, the strategy that was more frequently used by students was self-management, where students applied positive thinking, praying before starting an activity, stretching their mouths, regulating their breathing, and practicing speaking in front of the mirror to minimize fear and anxiety. Another strategy they use is getting help from peer seeking, where discussions and practice with close friends can reduce anxiety. This can directly help students to increase self-confidence and reduce anxiety.
