Speaking is one of the basic skills in learning English and is very much needed,
considering it uses English. For example, they apply for jobs, scholarships, study
abroad, and business. This research aims to determine the Mind Mapping
technique's effectiveness in teaching speaking skills to the eleventh students of
SMAN 61 East Jakarta. This research was conducted using quantitative methods.
Researchers took two classes as samples: Samples were taken from XI MIPA 1 as
the experimental class and XI IPS 1 as the control class. The researcher used tests
(pre-test and post-test), and the analysis was carried out using the paired t-test and
independent t-test methods. In this test, a decision is taken to reject H0 if the
significance value is (0.05). It is known that the significance value is smaller than
the significance level, namely 0.018 - 0.05, so a decision is made to reject H0 so
that the data variance of the two classes is different. In other words, using mind
maps to teach English increases students speaking skills.
