The Effect of Using Audio-Visual Media to Improve Students’ Listening Skill at the Eighth Grade of MTS Negeri 17 Jakarta in the Academic Year of 2021/2022

The objective of the study was to find the effect of using audio-visual media on the students’ listening skills of eighth-grade students at MTS Negeri 17 Jakarta. The research was held at the MTS Negeri 17 Jakarta, which is located on Jl. Bakti I Kelurahan Baru, Kecamatan Pasar Rebo, Jakarta Timur focusing on the eighth-grade students as sample. This research used a quasi-experimental study as the design of this research.
This research was held in eighth meetings from February 7, 2022, until March 18, 2022. This included a giving pre-test, treatment, and giving post-test. The data collected for this study were analyzed using the T-test. The data from the pre-test showed that both classes had a slight difference in the mean score, where the experimental class got 67.50 and the control class got 69.38. However, the post-test score showed that the experimental class got a higher mean score of 81.25 than the control class 75.31. Moreover, the results presented that based on the independent test resulted in a p-value or sig (2-tailed) = 0,001. It proved from the result, that the null hypothesis was rejected while the alternative hypothesis was accepted because the p-value has a lower score than sig = α = 0,05 (5%). From the research findings, the writer concluded that using audio-visual media was effective in improving students’ listening skills in the academic year 2021/2022.
