EFL Students’ Perception of YouTube as Media Used in Learning English Skills and Sub-skills

HAMKA, Jakarta 2021.This research is purposed to get clear information about English foreign language (EFL) students’ perceptions of YouTube as Media Used in Learning English Skills and Sub-skills. Currently, YouTube is believed as the most popular media either for fun or for education context. Many EFL students used this platform as the media to learn English Skills and Sub-Skills. Hence, this study tries to expose the students’ perception towards YouTube by using quantitative approach as one as applying survey design and instruments. To be able to explore the perception, there are 200 respondents involved from Jabodetabek area. After the data has been collected use close-ended questionnaire, the writer analyzed it by using and five-point Likert-scale. The findings clearly showed that (89,33%) students gave a positive response on the accessibility for having a YouTube account, and use it anytime and anywhere, compared with Neutral (5,17%) and strongly disagree and disagree response (5,5%). Next, it also showed that (80,2%) students responded that they got the usefulness of YouTube from the learning English skills and sub-skill activity or material compared with Neutral (14,9%) and strongly disagree and disagree response (4,9%). Last, it was clearly seen that (87,3%) all students stated that they have no problem with practically on YouTube compared with Neutral (10,5%) and strongly disagree and disagree response (2,2%). Therefore, it can be concluded that students' perceptions of YouTube have positive impact in the context of learning English skills and sub-skill, and they believe YouTube has an important role in learning process, and provided more help that those who said neutral or did not, especially in the context of raising accessibility, usefulness in learning English, and practically of YouTube.
