The objective of this research is to get the empirical evidence of the significant relationship between the anxiety and the speaking skill at the eighth grade of the first semester students on SMPN 9 Bekasi in 2019/2020 academic year.
The writer uses quantitative survey method by using correlation technique with 30 samples from the population of 280 students of the eighth grade of the first semester students on SMPN 9 Bekasi in 2019/2020 academic year. The instruments used for this research are the questionnaire of anxiety and the test of speaking skill. The scores of the students are calculated by using the formula of Pearson’s Product Moment.
The findings of the research shows that there is the significant relationship between the anxiety and the speaking skill at the eighth grade of the first semester students on SMPN 9 Bekasi in 2019/2020 academic year. It is proved by the calculation using the formula of Pearson’s Product Moment. The result shows that robserved = 0.97 and rtable = 0.36 in the level significance of P = 0.05 with df = 30-2 = 28. In other words, robserved is higher than rtable (ro > rt). As the consequence, Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. As a result, there is a significant relationship between students’ anxiety and speaking skill at the eighth grade of the first semester students on SMPN 9 Bekasi in the 2019/2020 academic year.
