The objective of this research was to find out the empirical evidence of the quality of the English summative test for the second semester students at the eighth grade of SMPN 105 Jakarta Barat in terms of the facility value or difficulty level, discriminating power and the effectiveness of distractor. The test was held in SMPN 105 Jakarta Barat on March. The test of this research consists of 40 multiple choice items. The respondents of this research are 46 students which are divided into 27% of upper, 46% of medium group and 27% of lower group. In this matter, the writer does not use the medium group, which is about 46% because the item analysis needs only the upper and lower group as a sample analysis, In analyzing the difficulty level and the discriminating power and effectiveness of distractor, the writer used the formula suggested by SurharsimiArikunto.
The result of the data analysis showed that from 40 items. There had been 22 items which are categorized in the easy level, 14 items which are categorized in the medium level and 4 items which are categorized in the difficulty level
Principally, this analysis has two significances to give information to the teacher / test maker how to make good test item, especially on English test and to give new ideas to the reader to construct good test. The teachers must make a right judgment for their students. Through a test the teachers can measure their students‟ abilities. Before making the set of test the teachers must know the proportion of the items.
