The Relationship between Students’ Writing Anxiety and Writing performance of the Eighth-grade students’ of MTSN 1 Bekasi in the Second Semester of the 2021/2022 Academic Year

The objective of this research was to determine whether or not there is a relationship between students’ writing anxiety and writing performance of the eighth-grade students of MTSN 1 Bekasi in the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. The method of this study was a quantitative method. The research subject was 8th.10 class students, consisting of 30 students chosen by purposive sampling technique. The instruments used for this research were an anxiety questionnaire that consists of 20 items with a 5-point Likert-Scale English writing score and a writing paragraph test. The score of two variables was analyzed by Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. Based on the data analysis, it was found that robserved = 0.362 and rtable= 0.349. It can be seen that robserved is higher than the rtable. It means Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded the students were in categorized with moderate levels anxiety and that there is a low relationship between students’ writing anxiety and the writing performance of the eighth-grade students MTSN 1 Bekasi in the second semester of the 2021/2022 Academic year. The teachers can reduce writing anxiety by conducting brainstorming and class discussion, also students need to take the time to implement their own personal strategies to manage their writing anxiety.
