The objective of the research was determined whether or not there
is a relationship between students' habit in listening to English songs and
students’ vocabulary mastery of the second-semester English department
students at the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka 2021/2022
academic year. The method of this study was a quantitative method. The
research subject was census sampling students from 3 class. The sample
were 81 students. The instruments used for this research were the habit in
listening to English songs, which included 25 items on 5-point Likert-scale
and vocabulary test. The score of two variables was analyzed by Pearson’s
Product Moment Correlation. Based on the data analysis, it was found that
r-observed = 0.892 and r-table = 0.219. It can be seen that r-observed is
higher than r-table. It means H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, it
can be concluded that there is a very high relationship between students'
habit in listening to English songs and students’ vocabulary mastery of the
second-semester English department students at the University of
Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka 2021/2022 academic year.
