Students’ Habits of Watching English Movies and their Speaking Skills for the Tenth
Grade Students of SMKN 40 East Jakarta in the Academic Year of 2021/2022
The objective of the research is to find the empirical evidence of whether or not there
is a significant the Relationship Between Students’ Habits of Watching English Movies
and their Speaking Skills for the Tenth Grade Students of SMKN 40 East Jakarta in the
Academic Year of 2021/2022
The writer used the quantitative survey method by using correlation technique. The
population of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMKN 40 Jakarta in the
2021/2022 Academic Year, and the writer only took 3 Class concisting of 110 students
for the sample of the research. The instruments used for this research were the
questionnaire of watching habit and the test of speaking skill . The scores of the the
two variables were calculated by using the formula of Pearson’s Product Moment
The finding that robserved around 0.81 and r table was around 0.35 in the significant level
of 0.05 with df = 110 – 2 = 108. In other words, observed was higher than rtable (ro >
rt). As the result, Ho was rejected and Hi was accepted. It showed that there is
relationship between watching habit and the speaking skill. From the t-test, it obtained
the result of tobserved is around 1.81 ttabel = 1.70 (ro > rt). Therefore, Ho and Hi accepted.
It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between habit watching
English movie and students’ speaking skill of the tenth grade students of SMKN 40
East Jakarta.
