This study was about university students’ perceptions of the use of English podcasts as listening learning media and the advantages and problems students encounter when listening to podcasts, which is used to collect information about the opinion and problems of the English education study program about the use of podcasts as listening learning media. This study aims to describe the university students’ perceptions of the use of English podcasts as listening learning media.
The research type was mix-method research. Data from this research are collected from the questionnaire and interview. The subjects of this research were learners from English Education Study Program. Questionnaires were distributed to 120 students, and interview data were obtained from 5 students’ representatives who were samples.
The researcher found that: (1) 115 (96%) students enjoy using podcasts as listening learning media because podcasts are easy to use. Students agreed that podcasts could help them learn to listen and are willing to use the podcast as an alternative way to learn to listen. And podcast also motivated them because it engaged their interest. The content of the podcast and clear native pronunciation are derived from the podcast derived from podcast could hone their skills. Besides, most of the students agreed that podcast was easy to get since many podcasting websites are available. (2) The problem that the students encountered in using podcasts was that the podcast was too long for them, and there was no transcript. Because of that, 5 (4%) students might feel bored and lose focus when listening to the podcast.
