Songs and Writing Skills of the English Education Students of UHAMKA in the
2020/2021 Academic Year. A Paper. The Study Program of English Education,

Muhammadiyah Prof. Dr. Hamka. Jakarta, 2021.
The objective of the research is to find empirical evidence of whether or
not there is a significant relationship between the habit of listening to English
songs and the writing skills of the fourth semester of English Education students
of UHAMKA in the 2020/2021 academic year.
The data was collected from July 24th 2021 until July 27th 2021. The
subject of the research was 4th B class students consisting of 30 students chosen by
random cluster sampling technique. The method of the research is quantitative
method. The instrument used for collecting the data was a questionnaire on the
students’ habit of listening to English songs and a document of their writing skill
scores. The score of the variables were analyzed by using the Pearson’s Product
Moment Correlation.
From the data analysis, the result of the value of correlation coefficient of
product moment was -0.233 < 0.349. According to Arikunto (2003), 0.233
indicates as Low coefficient correlation. It means Ha is rejected and Ho (null
hypothesis) is accepted. Therefore, there is no significant relationship between the
habit of listening to English songs and writing skills of the 4th semester of English
Education students of UHAMKA in the 2020/2021 academic year.
