The objective of this study is to get factual data of whether or not there is
relationship between students’ motivation and their reading comprehension at the
seventh grade of MTs As-Sa’adah on the first semester in 2020/2021 academic year.
In this study, the writer used quantitative approach by implementing correlation
design with the test and questionnaire instruments. The population of this study is
the second grade students from of MTs As-Sa’adah Condet. However, the writer
only involved 36 students from 2 classes using random sampling technique. In this
quantitative study, the authors calculated the correlation hypothesis using the
technique Pearson's Product Moment Correlation. Product Moment Correlation
technique is one of the techniques in statistics that is commonly used to find the
relationship between two variables. Based on the results of the normality and
linearity test data analysis, it is known that the data is normally distributed and has
a linear line. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the Pearson product
moment coefficient correlation formula and the results (rxy) or robserved were 0.665
and rtable with degrees of freedom (df) 34 at a significance level of 5% was 0.329.
It can be interpreted that the hypothesis (rxy) robserved is bigger than rtable (robserved
0.665 > rtable 0.329). So, the alternative hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the null
hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Furthermore, the researcher wanted to know the
significance value of the X and Y variables using the t-test. The results of the
analysis show that tobserved value is lower than the ttable value (tobserved 6.48 > ttable 1.690). Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is relationship between students' motivation and their reading comprehension.
