The objective of this research is to find empirical evidence of whether or not mind mapping is effective in teaching students writing narrative text at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Tangerang. The research used pre-experimental design in which the writer conduct pretest and posttest. The population of the research was the 114 students from 2 classes of X IPA – 2 classes of X IPS, and 26 students from X IPA 1 were chosen to be the sample of the research. The sample for this research was X IPA 1 using purposive sampling technique.
To obtain the data, the writer used pretest – posttest, the data were analyzed using pre-requisite test to know the normality and homogeneity of the data. To prove the hypothesis of the research, the data were tested by using One- Sample t-test SPPSS program 25.
Finally the finding of the research showed that the Ho rejected and Ha accepted, because significance value is 0,000 it means less than 0,025, so Ha accepted. It meant the use of mind mapping can improve students’ ability in writing narrative text in X MIA 1 of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Tangerang on the first semester of 2021/2022 academic year.
