The aim of the research is to find out of whether or not there is a relationship between students’ self-confidence and their writing skill at the eighth grade of SMPN 157 Jakarta on the second semester in 2020/2021 academic year.
The method of the research is quantitative method. The population of the research were all eighth grade and there were 9 classes of VII-A, VII-B, VII-C, VII-D, VII-E, VII-F, VII-G, VII-H, VII-I in SMPN 157 Jakarta on the second semester 2020/2021. The writer used purposive sampling technique. The writer only took 36 students from VII-A class as the sample of the research. The data were obtained from self-confidence questionnaire and writing test.
From the data analysis, the result of r-observed is 0.855 and r-table is 0.320 in a significant 0.05 with n=36. It can be seen that the r-observed is higher than r-table (robserve = 0.855 > rtable = 0.320). It means that Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Hi) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between students’ self-confidence and their writing skill at the eighth grade of SMPN 157 Jakarta on the second semester in 2020/2021 academic year.
