The objective of the study is to analyze on the student’s difficulties in comprehending the digital reading text on the eighth semester of English Education Department in University Muhammadiyah of Prof. Dr. Hamka Academic Year 2017. The design of this study is a mixed method by quantitative phase first then qualitative phase to support the quantitative data. There are three types of data collection technique in this study, for quantitative phase there are reading comprehension test, questionnaire and for qualitative phase is interview. The participants of this study were 55 students of eighth semester of English Education Department in University Muhammadiyah of Prof. Dr. Hamka Academic Year 2017 who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Questionnaire and reading comprehension test were distributed through google form and for the reading comprehension test, the result would be categorize based on their group level which are upper, moderate and lower group level. Interview data were obtained from 10 students based on their reading comprehension score level. The data interview were analyzed using thematic analysis. The quantitative findings revealed that the students in the eighth semester of the English Education Department at the University Muhammadiyah of Prof. Dr. Hamka Academic Year 2017 were at a medium level (78%) and that 48 students had difficulty in understanding the digital reading text. It is also confirmed by qualitative data that the researcher found five difficulty issues, including connection issues, health issues, lose of concentration, too much distraction, and time consumption. Despite the fact that the majority of students believe that digital text can cause problems, they nevertheless prefer to comprehend their reading digitally rather than on printed text.
