The purpose of this study is to know whether there is a relationship between the
students’ speaking anxiety and their speaking performance at eight grade of 281 Junior
High School Jakarta. The sample of this study are 36 students taken of 281 Junior High School Jakarta. The method used in this study is quantitative method the technique used in this study is correlational technique analysis.
In collecting the data, the writer used the questionnaires which were distributed to
the students to know their speaking anxiety. The questionnaires based on the indicators of intrinsic and extrinsic anxiety which were adopted from Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) from Howitz. Then, in assessing the students’ speaking performance, the writer used speaking test to the students. In analyzing the data, the questionnaires were assessed by taking Likert’s scale rating and the speaking test were assessed by following Keith Folse’s scale rating. Furthermore, the data were analyzed pre-requisite analysis and used the normality and linearity test. After getting the result and the data were normal and linear, the writer tested the research hypothesis by using Pearson’s Product Moment Coefficient Correlation analysis. The result of the study is ro is higher than rtable (0.491 > 0.339), it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the students’ speaking anxiety and their speaking performance at the eighth grade of 281 Junior High School Jakarta in 2021/2022 academic year.
In this study, the score of to is 8.324 and ttable is 0.339. It means to is higher than
ttable (8.324 > 0.339). It means that X variable (the students’ speaking anxiety) has a relationship with Y variable (speaking performance). It can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between the students’ speaking anxiety and their speaking performance at the eighth grade of 281 Junior High School Jakarta in 2020/2021 academic year. Furthermore, the writer hopes that this study can be used as information for the teacher to increase the students’ speaking anxity, especially in speaking performance and this study also can be used as a reference for further studies.
