The objective of this study was to find out the perceptions of English
primary teachers toward English curriculum in primary school. The
method was Qualitative research regards people as anticipatory, meant was
who actively construct their own meant of situations and make sense of
their world and act in it through such interpretations with this research, we
could found out the perception of elementary schools teacher regarding
language subjects that were made local content. There were some materials
that were more directed towards Indonesian, so why English was used as a
local content because they wanted to introduce Indonesian culture by using
English. The writer conducted interviews via zoom with five Jakarta
primary school teachers. The interview consisted of 30 questions. The
open-ended questions allowed participants to responding. The English
curriculum, which was used as local content, reduced their teaching time
by mixing English and cultural arts lessons. The students will not get the
essence in learning English. Therefore, school teachers did not only want
the subjects as the local content, but also became the compulsory subjects
so that the elementary school students were able to continue learning
English in other school levels and to have a good atmosphere in English.
