The objective of the study was to know whether or not the reading exercises in Bahasa Inggris for the tenth Grade Students were in line with thecommunicative reading competence. The method of the study was a descriptive comparative analysis method. In this case, the writer used the number by percentage compared the contents of the reading exercises in the English textbook with the communicative reading competence. The instrument used in doing this research was checklists containing the sub-skills presented by Munby‟s communicative reading sub-skills. Each checklist was used for recording one
chapter. The samples that the writer used in analyzing the reading exercises with the communicative reading competences in the textbook Bahasa Inggris were 101 reading exercises. Based on the data analysis of the research, the percentage and frequencies based on Munby Communicative Reading Competences they; (1) have 4 frequencies and 0,7%, (2) have 2 frequencies and 0,3%, (3) have 6 frequencies and 1,1%, (4) have 7 frequencies and 1,3%, (5) have 5 frequencies and 0,9%, (6) have 7 frequencies and 1,3%, (7) have 3 frequencies and 0,5%, (8) have 2 frequencies and 0,3%, (9) have 3 frequencies and 0,5%, (10) have 12 frequencies and 2,2%, (11) have 3 frequencies and 0,5% (12) have 2 frequencies and 0,3%, (13) have 3 frequencies and 0,5%, (14) have 3 frequencies and 0,5%, (15) have 2 frequencies and 0,3%, (16) have 2 frequencies and 0,3%, (17) have 6 frequencies and 1,1%, and (18) have 29 frequencies and 5,5%, so there have been 18 reading sub-skills that are matched with the reading skill. Then the percentages of the data are 94% of relating to their relevance with 19 Munby‟s Communicative Syllabus Design and the rest 6% were not developed. Based on the result of data analysis, the writer concludes that the reading exercises in Bahasa Inggris textbook for the tenth grade students of vocational high school is a very good book criteria because that reading exercise book is in the line with the communicative reading exercises
