An error analysis on the recount texts made by the students of the second semester of the eighth grade, SMP Muhammadiyah 50 Jakarta in 2017/2018 Academic Year

The research was started on April 4th and finished on April 11th 2018. It aimed at knowing the most types and sources of errors that occurred in the recount text made by the students of the eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 50 Jakarta 2017/2018. The participant consists of 25 students. The writer used the proceduresof error analysis. After getting the data, the writer analyzed and classified the errors based on the types of proposed by Betty Azzar and the sources proposed by John Norrish. The result of the research showed that the highest typical errors made by the students in their recount text were capitalization (29%) and the lowest were run on sentence (0,4%). While, the highest sources of error were carelessness (43%) and the lowest were translation (26%). Based on the result, the writer concluded that the students of the eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 50 Jakarta still made errors in their writing. It showed that the students of the eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 50 Jakarta needed more practices in writing an English composition in order to reduce the errors and to improve their ability in writing an English composition.
