The objective of this study is to get the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of information gap technique in the teaching of speaking to the eighth grade students of SMP Citra Negara Depok in the 2019/2020 academic year. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Citra Negara. The research employed pre-experimental design. It involved one class consisted of 27 students. They were selected by using total random sampling. The data were collected through a speaking test and analyzed by employing t-test formula.
Based on the data analysis, it was found that tobserved (to) 7.51 and ttable (tt) was 1.70. Because to is higher than tt (to>tt), it means that the Ho was rejected and the Hi was accepted. As the result, it proves that practicing information gap was effective in the teaching of speaking skill to the eighth grade student of SMP Citra Negara in the 2019/2020 academic year
