The objective of this study was to find out whether there is a significant
relationship between the students’ habit of playing Digital Video Games (DVG)
and their vocabulary ability at the second semester of the tenth grade students of
SMK Ad-Da’wah Jakarta of in 2018/2019 academic year, or not. The research was
held in SMK Ad- Da’wah located at Jl. Raya Duri Kosambi No. 23, Cengkareng
West Jakarta and it started on February 26th 2019 to April 02nd 2019. This research
is quantitative research in which analyzing the data by using Pearson’s Product
Moment of two variables: The students’ habit of playing Digital Video Games
(DVG) (X) and vocabulary ability (Y). The populations of this research are 267
students from X PM 1, X PM 2, X PM 3, X TKJ 1, X TKJ 2, X AK 1, X AK 2 of
the students in the tenth grade of SMK Ad- Da’wah West Jakarta. For the sample,
the writer took class X AK 2 which consist of 33 students by conducting a random
sampling technique.
The finding of the research showed that the average score of (X) was 64, 45,
and (Y) 60,30. After calculating and analyzing the data, the chi-square test of X
variable showed χ²t 40,1 while χ²₀ 13,83, because χ²₀ < χ²t and the chi-square of Y
variable showed χ²t 40,1while χ²₀ 2,18, because χ²₀ < χ²t it can be said that data of
X and Y variables come from the population which have normal distribution. The
correlation found was r- observed= -0,112 and r- table= 0,344 in a significant 0.05
with n= 33. Because r- observed < r- table, it means H₀ is accepted so it can be
concluded that there is no relationship between students’ habit of playing Digital
Video Games (DVG) and their vocabulary ability at the second semester of the tenth
grade students of SMK Ad-Da’wah Jakarta in 2018/2019 academic year.
In short, the students’ habit of playing Digital Video Games does not have a
relationship toward the students’ vocabulary ability at the second semester of the
tenth grade students of SMK Ad-Da’wah Jakarta in 2018/2019 academic year
