The objective of the research was to find the empirical evidence of whether or
not using picture in teaching students’ speaking skill at the eighth grade students of
SMPN 6 Bekasi in 2018/2019 academic year was effective. The writer used pre-
experiment method. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of
SMPN 6 Bekasi. The samples were taken from one class of the eighth grade by using
random sampling technique. It was class VIII 7 of SMPN 6 Bekasi which consisted of
39 students. The result of the Lilliefors analysis showed that the data of the pre-test and
post-test in experimental class were normally distributed. Furthermore, the result of the
t- test gives 15.31 for t-observed 1.70 for t-table. Because to > tt (15.31 >1.70), it can
be concluded that the use of picture was effective in teaching speaking skill to the
eighth grade students of SMPN 6 Bekasi, in the 2018/2019 academic year. The
researcher suggested that the English teacher should apply Describing Picture in
teaching speaking skill as one of the alternative learning strategies especially because
it had been found that the technique can make them successful in learning speaking
