The purpose of the study is to know whether the English summative test
items for eleventh grade students of 48 Vocational High School Jakarta
2017/2018 academic year have good quality in terms of difficulty level,
discriminating power, the effectiveness of answer key options and the
effectiveness of distractor.
The respondents of this research are 42 students of the eleventh grade
students of 48 Vocational High School Jakarta 2017/2018. The class is divided
into two groups, 21 (50%) students who get the highest score in the English test
for the upper group, 21 (50%) students who get the lowest score in English test for
the lower group.
Based on the analysis of the data in this research, the writer summarizes
that the English summative test, which is administrated in 48 Vocational High
School Jakarta are good because from 40 items, there are 29 items which are
accepted, 1 items are rejected, and 10 items must be revised so, it can be use as
the model for developing the English test or reused for the next test. In this
research, there are three significances of the studies such as, first for the English
teacher of 48 Vocational High School Jakarta is able to comprehend how to
conduct an item analysis, there by; the teacher can identify which item that may
need to be kept, revised or discarded. Second for the students can get the better
test because by doing an item analysis, the poor item will decrease and the quality
of the test will improved. The last for the school can be used to find out the
quality of the items that have been created by the teachers. Finally, the summative
test have been in analyzes and satisfies the criteria of a good test, test means
summative the beneficial for the student and teacher.
