This research was conducted to find the empirical evidence of whether or not
there is a significance relationship between the motivation in learning English and
speaking skill at the tenth grade students of SMAN 102 Jakarta in 2018/2019 academic year.
This research was held in January 2019 with 209 students were divided into
six classes are the population of the research. X MIPA 3 is taken as the research
sample randomly which consists of 35 students. The writer took the data by using test instrument and did the research with survey method. The instruments of this reaserch are both motivation questionnaire and speaking test. to calculate the correlation between X variable (The Motivation in Learning English) and Y variable (Speaking Skill), the writer used Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation.
Based on the result of Chi-Square test, the data of two variables have normal
distribution. The result of normality in X = 3.22 and Y = 3.67 variable are smaller than
X2t= 7.81. From the scattered diagram, the scores show closed to the straight line and linear distribution. From the r-test, the result of ro= 0.89 is bigger than rt= 0.325. As ro > rt, it can be said Ho is rejected and Hi is accepted, it means that there is significance relationship between students’ motivation in learning English and their speaking skill at the tenth grade students of SMAN 102 Jakarta in 2018/2019 academic year. From the t-test, the result of to= 11.35 is bigger than tt= 1.69. Therefore, there is a significant relationship between students’.
