This research attempted to find the relationship between students’ emotional
intelligence and their recount text writing skill of the eighth grade students on
SMPN 106 Jakarta in 2016/2017 academic year. The writer used survey method
with correlation technique. The instruments that were used for getting the data
were questionnaire and writing test. The score of the students were calculated by
using Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation. The result of the research showed
that robserved was higher than rtable (0.55 > 0.361). It means that null hypothesis
(Hₒ ) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Hᵢ ) was accepted. Therefore,
the result of this research concluded that there was a significant relationship
between students’ emotional intelligence and their recount text writing skill of the
eighth grade students on SMPN 106 Jakarta in 2016/2017 academic year.
