The objectives of this study were to find the most common types and sources of errors that the students made in their writing and to give suggestions for remedial teaching that can be used to minimize the errors. This study was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah 1, Depok. The samples of this study were 25 students of XI IPA. The writer assembled the data by assigning the students to choose and write a descriptive text based on the topics that the writer gave. In analyzing the data, the writer used Azar’s grammatical error classification for the types of error and Norrish’s classification for the sources of eror. The result of this study showed that the most typical errors that the students made were punctuation with 17%, word choice with 14%, and singular-plural with 13%. Furthermore, the most common source of errors that the students made was carelessness with 55%.
