The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using MURDER (Mood, Understanding, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, Review) technique in teaching reading comprehension to the seventh grade students at SMPN 246 Jakarta. The samples were taken from two classes of the seventh grade. The writer took 35 students for the samples in each class; those are 7.c as the experiment class and 7.e as the control class. The data that the writer got from the research were using the t-test formula.
The result of this research shows that by using MURDER (Mood, Understanding, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, Review) technique in teaching reading comprehension in the experiment class is more effective than teaching reading comprehension by using traditional way in control class. The result is tobserved = 2.5 and ttable = 1.66757. Because to > tt, it means there is a significant effectiveness of using MURDER (Mood, Understanding, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, Review) technique in teaching reading comprehension.
The result of the research are hoped to be useful for the students to help them in improving their English reading skills in reading comprehension by using MURDER (Mood, Understanding, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, Review) technique. In other hand, it gives information to the teachers that teaching process by using MURDER (Mood, Understanding, Recall, Detect, Elaborate, Review) technique as one of the techniques to develop students‟ ability in reading especially reading comprehension.
