The objective of this research is to find whether the English summative
test for the eleventh grade students of the first semester at SMA Pusaka Nusantara
2 Bekasi in the 2015/2016 academic year has quality of a bad test in term of
difficulty level, discriminating power, and the effectiveness of option or not. The
English summative test was administered on 8th December 2015.
The respondent of this study was the eleventh grade students. The writer
only took 30% (50 respondents) of the eleventh grade students as a sample of
respondents from four classes (XI IPA-1, XI IPA-2, XI IPA-3, and XI IPS). Then
the writer ranked the students from the highest to the lowest score, and took 27%
from the highest score as the upper group and 27% from the lowest score as the
lower group. Each group consisted of 14 respondents.
The analysis of the difficulty level showed that there were 0 items (0%)
which were difficult, 19 items (63%) which were medium and 11 items (37%)
which were easy.From the result of the item analysis in term of discriminating
power, the writer got the data that there have been 8 test items or 27% that did not
have good quality; they were 3 items (10%) categorized as very poor items that
need to be rejected, and 5 items (17%) that categorized as poor items that need
revision. However, the quality of 22 items or 73% (satisfactory (10 items), good
(12 items), and excellent (0 item)) are good because the test can be accepted. The
analysis of the effectiveness of answer key showed that there were 21 answer keys
(70%) that are categorized as effective; 5 answer keys (17%) that are categorized
as less effective, and 4 answer keys (13%) that are categorized as ineffective. The
tabulation of effectiveness of distractor, the composition test shows: 44 distractors
or 37% are categorized as effective, 23 distractors or 19% are categorized as less
effective and 53 distractors or 44% are categorized as ineffective. The analysis of
omit showed that all test items are good. There is no student who did not answer the test items; no item has omit more than 10% of students.The writer concludes that the English summative test for the eleventh grade students of the first semester at SMA Pusaka Nusantara 2 Bekasi in the 2015/2016 academic year in general has good quality.
