The objective of this research was to find out the relationship between
reading habit and the students writing skill at SMPN 174 Jakarta on July 2019.
This research employed the Correlation Product Moment Design. The
questionnaire and the writing test was employed as the instrument. The sample
were random sampling. It was seven G grade that consisted of 33 students.
This research had been examined the normality test (Chi Square), and
Linearity test (Regretion Linearity test). The data were normal and linear. The
result of the data analysis showed that, from the statistically data r = 0.217 and r t
=0.344 through significance degree 0,05. It indicated that r = 0.217 was less than r
t = 0344. It referred that Ho was accepted or there was no relationship between
reading habit and the students‟ writing skill of the G seve grade at SMPN 174
Jakarta.
The advantages of this study are it can give the impact for the students to
improve their habit of reading and writing even though there was no relationship
between reading habit and their writing, because, if the students gain the exposure
deeply such as composing the writing after the students read, it can improve their
memorization capacity especially for the vocabulary knowledge.
