The objective of this study was to find out the empirical evidence whether
there is a relationship or not between the students‟ habit in playing scrabble game
and their vocabulary mastery at the eighth-grade of the second semester on SMPN
128 Jakarta in 2018/ 2019 academic year.
This study was held in February 2019 with 216 students as the population
and 35 students in VIII-3 as the sample. The method of this study was quantitative
in a form of a correlational study method. The instruments used for collecting the
data were a questionnaire on the students‟ habit in playing scrabble game and a
vocabulary test. The scores of the two variables were calculated by using
Pearson‟s Product Moment Correlation.
Based on the result of the Chi-Square test, the data of the two variables
have normal distribution. The result of the normality test of the X variable is
smaller than X2t= 7.81. The result of the normality test of the Y variable is smaller
than X2t= 9.49. The result of X= -54.9 and Y= -110.4. From the scattered diagram,
the data of the X and Y variables show an irregular line. From the r-test, the result
of ro= 0.14 is smaller than rt= 0.325. As ro Hi is rejected. From the t-test, the result of to= 0.81 is lower than tt= 1.69.
Therefore, there is no significant relationship between the students‟ habit in
playing scrabble game and their vocabulary mastery at the eighth-grade of the
second semester on SMPN 128 Jakartain2018/ 2019 Academic Year.
