This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between reading
habit and reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMPN 103
Jakarta in 2018/2019 academic year. The data of students were collected through
purposive sampling technique. Questionnaires and test were used as the
instruments of this research. First, the questionnaires were given to the students to
collect their reading habit scores. Second, the reading comprehension test was
conducted to measure students‟ reading comprehension. In this study, Pearson‟s
Product Moment correlation, and significance analysis were used to analyzed the
collected data. The result showed that robserved is higher than the rtable (0.470 >
0.334) which means Ho is rejected. It proofed that there is a relationship between
reading habit and reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMPN
103 Jakarta in 2018/2019 academic year.
Additionaly, the study also conducted significance analysis to get deeper
insight about the significance relationship of reading habit and reading
comprehension. The result of significance analysis is to was higher than tt (3.07 >
2.03). Therefore, Ha was accepted. The result can be concluded that there is a
significance relationship between students‟ reading habit and students‟ reading
comprehension. The findings of this study may have some implications for
teachers, readers and other researchers in the field of teaching and learning
English as a Foreign Language.
