The objective of this research is to find out the quality of each item of the
English summative test which was administered in Wattanatham Islam Poming
(Thailand) through item analysis, which covers the aspect of the difficulty level or
facility value, discriminating power and the effectiveness of distracter. The
method used in this research is descriptive qualitative analysis. The writer
describes the data by using simple statistic tabulation to find out the quality of
each item in the test. The test has been conducted on December, October 2018. It
consists of 20 multiple choice items. The respondents of this research were 68
students taken from two classes of the second grade junior high school of
Wattanatham Islam Poming (Thailand). All of them were ranked from the highest
to the lowest score. The writer took only 25% (17 students) from the highest score
as the upper group and 25% (17 students) from the lowest score as the lower
group. Based on the calculation of the difficult level in this research, the writer
finds 3 (15%) easy items, 6 (30%) medium items, 7 (35%) very easy items, (0%)
difficult items and 4 (20%) very difficult items.
The data shows that most items in the test are categorized as easy items.
Through calculation of the discriminating power, the writer finds 8 (40%) good
and satisfactory, those items should be retained, 10 (50%) poor items that should
be revised, (0%) excellent items should be retained and 2 (10%) very poor items
should be discarded. The result of this research is the English summative test in
Wattanatham Islam Poming, Pattani (Thailand) has good quality in term of
difficulty level or facility value, discriminating power and the effectiveness of
distracter.
