The Relationship between Students’ Self-Confidence and Students’ Speaking Skill at The Second Semester of SMAN 90 South Jakarta in the 2019-2020 academic year

The objective of this study is to know the relationship between students‟ self-confidence and their speaking skill at the eleventh grade students of SMAN 90 South Jakarta in academic year 2019/2020. The method used in this research is a quantitative research in an aspect correlational study. The samples involves 32 students of the eleventh grade at SMAN 90 South Jakarta in academic year 2018/2019. A test and a questionnaire are used as the instruments of this research. First of all, a speaking test was given to the students in a form of oral presentation to get the scores of students speaking skill and questionnaire using Likert‟s scale was used to get the data of students‟ self-confidence.
Then, the writer analyzed the relationship by using Pearson‟s Product Moment Formulation to analyze the correlation of the students‟ self-confidence (X variable) and speaking skill (Y Variable). The result shows that ro > rt (ro = 0.635 rtable = 0.349). The t-observed result is 4.41 and t-table is 1.70 which means (to > ttable). It concluded that there is significant relationship between students‟ self-confidence and their speaking skill of the second semester at SMAN 90 South Jakarta in the 2019-2020 academic year.
From the findings of the study, the writer concluded that there was significance relationship between students‟ self-confidence and their speaking skill at the eleventh grade on the second semester of SMAN 90 South Jakarta in the 2019-2020 academic year.
