The main purpose of this study is to get empirical evidence of English
summative test reliability of the eighth grade students of SMPN 7 Cirebon on the
second semester 2017-2018 academic years by following the standard procedures.
The method employed was a parallel test form to estimate reliability of English
summative test for eighth grade students in the second semester of the 2017/2018
academic years it can be classified as a field survey which refers to the correlation
study, the correlation of the study is used to correlate English summative score
and parallel test’ score. The populations of the study were the all students of the
eighth grade students of the SMPN 7 Cirebon. There are about 495 students, from
11 parallel classes. Every class consists of 45 students, the writer assume because
there were no excellence classes the capability or score of English summative test
of whole students were the same so, the writer took one classes randomly.
Based on the results of the statistical calculation shows that the data of the
variables have a normal distribution after testing by using the chi square
technique. The technique of the data analysis that is used in this research is
Person’s Product Moment correlation analysis with the result of ro = 0.96. From
the significant of 0.05 the degree of freedom (df) of 33 is 0.349 and ro is 0.96. The
result of ro is higher than r-table (rt), in consequence. Ho is rejected and Hi is
accepted.
It means that there is correlation between the scores of the students’
responses to the teacher result is also indicates that the two groups of scores
(teacher made test and model test) are significantly correlated. In other words, the
English summative test for the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Cirebon on
the second semester 2017/2018 academic years and the model test are reliable and
empirically parallel.
This research has several benefits for the students, for the English teachers
and also for the school itself, the benefits include; for the students, this study can
help them to improve theirs English proficiency, and also to provide research
information for the students in further studying matters about reliability of English
summative test.
For the teacher of SMPN 7 Cirebon, this study can give contribution and
benefits to encourage him or her to be aware of equivalent test reliability by

following standard procedures, and also to provide experiential finding to develop
a more reliable test in English evaluation.
The result of the study is also useful for the school to improve educational
services and to provide data base in Language evaluation, concerning test of item
reliability to give comparison about reliability test conducted by different method.
