The aim of this research is to get the empirical evidence of the relationship between simple past tense mastery and writing recount text at the tenth grade of SMK Ar-Raudhah North Jakarta in the 2014/2015. Method of this research is quantitative field research. The measurement of the relationship is used Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation as the statistical technique. The populations of this research are all of the student at the tenth grade on SMK Ar-Raudhah North Jakarta. The samples of the research are 30 students which were taken randomly of 2 classes
The finding of the research shows that students’ simple past tense mastery gets average 6890 and students’ recount text writing gets average score 59. After calculating and analyzing the data, the result shows robservedis higher than rtable(robserved = 0.533 >rtable= 0.214 ). So it can be concluded that there is a the relationship between simple past tense mastery and writing recount text of the tenth grade SMK Ar-Raudhah North Jakarta. The data also show that the tobserved= 3.19 and ttable = 1.66, it means that to is higher than ttable. So it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between simple past tense mastery and writing recount text of the tenth grade SMK Ar-Raudhah North Jakarta. The empirical can be described as follow Ŷ = 35.33 + 0. 344 ẍ
So it can be concluded that the simpe past tense mastery is very important for the students in writing recount text at the tenth grade SMK Ar-Raudhah North Jakarta. The benefit for teacher is this research can serve as a reference to improve the quality of teaching and knowing the extent of the students in writing recount text properly.
