The objective of this study is to find out the empirical evidence ofThe Effectiveness of Using Movie in Teaching Writing of Descriptive Text on the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 15 West Jakarta, in 2015/2016 Academic Year”.The population of this study is the students of SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 15 West Jakarta on the tenth grade. The total is 111 students from (XI mia1, XI IIS1, X IIS2). The sample is taken by using purposive sampling technique. It consistsof 30 students from the X IIS1.
The writer uses pre-experimental method in one class of the tenth grade students. The design of pre-experiment deals with pre-test, treatment, and post-test. It was taken on August up to September 2015. The data that the writer got by using the t-test formula.
Based on the result of the experiment by using movie in teaching descriptive writing, it is found that the t-observed (1.70) from df (29) in the significant level of 0.05. Due to the fact that to>tt, it means the Ho is rejected and the Hi is accepted. It can be concluded that the use of movie in teaching descriptive writing is effective. Therefore, the movie can be used as an alternative media for the English teacher especially for the senior high school teachers to attract the students’ interests and motivation in learning descriptive writing.
