The objective of the research was to find empirical data whether the
English summative test for the seventh grade students of SMP Yayasan
Pendidikan Islam At-Taqwa (YAPIA) Tangerang Selatan in the first semester in
2016/2017 academic year has fulfilled content validity or not.
The writer used comparative descriptive analysis method. In this case, the
writer compared the English summative test with learning materials and
objectives based on syllabus in School-Based Curriculum (KTSP). The
instruments are in the forms checklists which were arranged based on materials
and objectives in syllabus of KTSP. The materials and the objectives of each
language skill are identified and arranged into the lists or tables afore presented.
The research only focuses on reading and writing skills, because in the
summative test there were no items with listening and speaking skills. Thus, the
writer did not discuss those skills. The syllabus requirement dealing with the
reading and writing skills were identified, arranged and classified according to
each language skills. They are transformed into the questions for making checklist
as the instrument to make it easy to compare the syllabus requirement to
summative test items. The process of question derivation is based on the resources
(standard competence, basic competence, learning materials and indicator) in
syllabus of KTSP.
Having analyzed the summative test, it is found that 58% of the
summative test items are in line with the syllabus requirements. Based on the
Arikunto’s scheme conformity level, it means that the English summative test for
the seventh grade students of SMP Yayasan Pendidikan Islam At-Taqwa (YAPIA)
Tangerang Selatan in the 2016/2017 academic year has sufficient validity level.
