The objective of this research was to get the empirical evidence based on
the formulation research of the problem whether the English summative test for
the seventh grade students of SMP AN-Nurmaniyah Tangerang in the first
semester of 2017/2018 academic year is reliable or not. The method of this
research was descriptive quantitative method. The descriptive-quantitative method
was used for describing the result of correlation the odd and even numbers of
English summative test made by the English teacher. The numbers of population
were 194 students. However, the writer only took 54 students as samples which
were from 7.1 and 7.2 classes by using purposive sampling technique. Those 54
students’ scores were divided into two groups; odd numbers and even numbers.
The writer used split half test with the definition is about dividing the
scores of the test which becomes two parts, namely; the scores of the odd and
even numbers of items. Before analyzing the data, the writer has tested the data
with normality test using Chi Square. The writer used the Pearson’s Product
Moment correlation technique to correlate the odd and even numbers of split half
form. Based on the statistical calculation, it is found that ro is 0.959, with the
significance standard of 0.05 and df 54 - 2 = 52, the value of rt is 0.268. Since the
ro is higher than rt (0.959 > 0.268), it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Hi
is accepted.
The writer concluded that the English summative test for the seventh grade
students of SMP An-Nurmaniyah Tangerang in the second semester of the
2017/2018 academic year is reliable.
